Thai massage

Thai massage is a cross between acupressure, yoga , and zen shiatsu consisting of slow, rhythmic compressions and stretches along the body's energy lines. Thai massage concentrates on applying pressure using the palms of the hands, thumbs, elbows, and feet. The therapist works to free tension within the body, softening and relaxing myofascia and improving energy flow. Practitioners also position the body into yoga-like poses and gently rock the body to open the joints and facilitate limbering.

Preparations

The preparation needed before receiving a Thai massage is minimal. A Thai massage is performed on a soft floor mat-enabling practitioners to use their body weight and to incorporate the many movements that would not be possible with a massage table. The client remains fully clothed, and lubricant for the skin is rarely used. A Thai massage with us at Greenleaf Healthcare lasts 1 hour although is typically recommended from 90 minutes to 2 hours; please inquire before your treatment if you would like additional time.
