No matter which sport your child plays -- whether it's soccer, football, baseball, track, or martial arts --youth need to be prepared. The potential injuries of sports can range from minor sprained ankles and repetitive strains, to more serious conditions like heat stroke or exercise-induced asthma. That preparation starts with seeing our physicians at Greenleaf Healthcare for a sports physical to make sure their bodies are ready for the season ahead. What Is a Sports Physical?
A sports physical -- also known as a pre-participation physical examination -- is a check-up to assess a youth's health and fitness as it relates to a sport. It is not the same as a regular physical. During the sports physical, the health care provider looks for any diseases or injuries that could make it unsafe to participate in sports and reviews the family's medical history to ensure additional tests are performed if necessary.

Physical Abilities Tests (PAT)
At Greenleaf Healthcare our physicians know the importance of utilizing laboratory tests to analyze and monitor our patients health. At your visit we can draw labs which will help us guide your treatment plan and support you on the path of wellness. From a Cardiometabolic panel which will give us a detailed look at your heart health and markers for diabetes risk, through labs testing for Vitamin D, Thyroid levels, Food allergies and Heavy metals.
The value of drawing labs contributes to preventative health (we encourage at least once per year) as well as optimizing the correct path of treatments for conditions...and their potential symptoms, such as:
We partner with Quest/LabCorp/US Biotek/Spectracell to offer you a comprehensive array of laboratory tests with Gold standard certification. Expedient and professional testing with an in-depth interpretation of your results.
Diagnostic imaging lets us utilize modern technology to evaluate your body for clues about an acute or chronic medical condition. If necessary for your treatment plan and a significant factor in improving your overall health, our physicians will discuss potential imaging recommendations with you. A variety of devices and techniques can create valuable pictures of the structures and activities taking place inside your body; and the type of imaging depends on your presenting symptoms and the area being examined.
Some of these tests include (which will take place at the most convenient location to you):
Many imaging tests are painless and easy. Some require you to stay still for a period of time inside a machine (such as MRI), which can be uncomfortable. Certain tests involve exposure to a small amount of radiation and as Naturopathic physicians we are very diligent in minimizing your risk by ordering these tests only when benefit outweighs the risk.
